In this section, you will find useful tools and information designed for individuals with disabilities and their families. We offer resources that focus on advocating for yourself, making informed choices with assistance, support for siblings, assistive technology, Down syndrome, and many other topics. These resources are intended to help you learn, develop, and access support.

Advocacy

Self-Advocates Becoming Empowered (SABE)
SABE is the United States’ national self-advocacy organization. Check out their website for news, information, and resources.

Self-Advocacy Resource and Technical Assistance Center (SARTAC)
SARTAC is a website with lots of tools and resources that help people organize and support self-advocacy groups.


Americans with Disabilities Act

Mid-Atlantic ADA Center
The ADA Center provides information, guidance, and training on the Americans with Disabilities Act. This helps governments, organizations, and businesses meet ADA requirements.

United States Department of Justice Civil Rights Division
This website has information and support related to the Americans with Disabilities Act.


Assistive Technology

Delaware Assistive Technology Initiative (DATI)
DATI helps Delawareans learn about and try tools that help with learning, communication, personal care, employment, and play. This includes equipment, software, and toys. DATI also helps people get the AT they need.


Down Syndrome & Alzheimer’s

Down Syndrome & Alzheimer’s Disease
People with Down syndrome are more likely to develop dementia that is the same as or very similar to Alzheimer's disease. This website has a lot of information and resources.


My Emergency Care Plan

An Emergency Care Plan helps first responders, doctors, and caregivers know important information about you during an emergency. It includes your medical conditions, medicines, allergies, equipment you use, and how you communicate. It also lists your strengths, challenges, and the people to contact if you need help.

Advocates for and serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, offering housing assistance, employment services, and recreational programs.

Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity
Provides affordable housing solutions for lowincome families, including those with disabilities.

Community Legal Aid Society, Inc. (CLASI)
Offers legal assistance and advocacy to individuals with disabilities, helping them understand and defend their rights.

Freedom Center for Independent Living
A nonprofit organization created and operated by people with disabilities, serving individuals with disabilities.

Independent Resources, Inc.
Promotes independent living for people with disabilities through various support services.

Lighthouse for Broken Wings
Aims to reduce homelessness in Eastern Sussex County by providing housing resources and referrals to comprehensive support services.

Sojourners' Place
Provides shelter and supportive services to homeless men and women, helping them achieve independence.


Sibling Support

Sibling Leadership Network
Go to this website for information and support that helps siblings of people with disabilities advocate with their brothers and sisters.

Sibling Support Project
This national project runs Facebook groups for teens and adults who have a brother or sister with disabilities. It also has information, workshops, and training. This project is helps local communities start Sibshops. Sibshops are fun support groups for school-age kids who have a brother or sister with disabilities.

National Resource Center for Supported Decision-Making
This website is full of information, resources, and tools to help people understand and use supported decision-making in their lives.
